Fil’s Journal

Filiel is long of limb with tanned skin that reflects her time in the sun and makes her blue eyes look darker than they are. Her hair is a light blue, almost like the sky at noon on a spring day, and pulled into a loose braid that hangs over her left shoulder. Her ears are pointed at their tips, pierced with two dull-metal rings in her right earlobe. On the left side of her neck is a tattoo branding her a member of the mercenary clan she was raised in. (Bigger Picture)

Outspoken, Filiel often rubs people the wrong way when she talks. She means well, if only for herself, and does what she can for those in her ‘favor’. She see’s many others as lesser because of her race and seems to challenge people with wits, words, and sometimes physical strength. She adores women, but doesn’t shy away from men. In fact, she’s not very coy around the opposite sex.

Filiel sits on the edge of the bed, looking down to her feet and pondering the question. She finally tilts her head, her aqua braid falling over her shoulder to rest along the curve of her back. She smiles slightly, as her eyes glance off to the side. “Me? Well…what can I say about myself?

I was born in Aksala along with my younger sister Danae. Of course, my parents gave me some ridiculously ‘pretty’ name – Filiel Raelee Del – that I couldn’t pronounce and so I just called myself Fil. My mother didn’t agree, but I didn’t mind. She was too busy chasing around Danae since people couldn’t keep their hands off of her.

Oh yes, she was quite the little deviant artist. Had everyone around those thin little fingers. Danny asked for something and she was given it almost instantly. She also didn’t have to work for it…damn spoiled princess. Feh! I, on the other hand, worked for everything! She chose to stay behind while I followed my father to join a mercenary group. I’d say I was about…mmm, thirteen?

Ahh, my father; he was handsome, with deep blue eyes and tanned skin. He wasn’t as tall as Mordon, but I always caught our female comrades glancing at him. I remember he always complained about how freely his hair moved and that it often got into his face. Since my hair had always been short in, what my mother called, a ‘tomboy cut’ I didn’t really notice. When I started growing my hair out, he gave me this ribbon. It’s even my favorite color…pink.

Anyway, what was I going on about? Oh right, my father. Well, he was killed during a trip up the mountains. I was left behind and people said he tripped and fell to his death. It’s not like I don’t miss him and I didn’t mourn him, but lives end all the time. It’s just unfortunate how many ends I’ve seen…

About the mercenary troupe…it was led by Mordon, though he, Laine, and I left to join a different group about three weeks after my father’s death. I was around sixteen and my mother had apparently sent messengers after my father to simply state I was to come home and marry. Of course, Mordon forbid it, since I was a mercenary and all.” Filiel grins broadly, but quickly clears her throat as she waves a hand to dismiss her last statement.

“Mordon wasn’t one for letting go of ‘trustworthy’ comrades, I mean. They’re hard to find after all. You see the lot of us on the airship and I guess there’s a bit of trust among us. Back to my story, Mordon and I worked together, traveling the world and all that romantic stuff, until about six months ago. Maybe more…sheesh, feels like I’ve been here on this ship for years.

Well, six or so months ago Mordon told me to travel with a smaller group of people who had already taken a job to kill a Dragon near Mahbehra. Of course, I second guessed why he’d ask me to go but he wouldn’t give me a straight answer. So I left and, to this day, I regret it.

It was merely a trap and we were captured inside this metal Dragon. The others well…two were killed; the other and I survived by not resisting. We were taken by a few warforged toward something, but I can’t remember what. Regardless, a sort of rebellion rose up before our fate was met. I was lucky enough to escape without a scratch, due to my extraordinary skills in running…not just away, mind you!

Of course, due to my terrible luck, I ran right into Amon and the others. Well… Amon, the gay man, and that Knight that cooks now. The rest are dead, but anyway, now we’re pretty much up to speed on how I got here.” Filiel shrugs her shoulders, lifting her left hand to pull her braid back over her shoulder. She sits in silence for a moment before looking to her listener. “How did you get here, anyway?”

The young boy blinks at her, holding up a stuffed cat, “Daddy brought me from the Orphanage.”

Filiel blinks, grinning broadly, “Daddy? Remember to call him that…all the time…everyday.”
